STYLE STEAL WEEKEND: SLAY INSPIRATION THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON !

May all guestswho enter, leave as friends.

The festive season is upon us again. Christmas is in the air; trees and decorations adorn the streets , homes and offices. Some people even add Christmas Fedora hats as part of their fashion this season. The Carol will be starting soon. What’s not to love about Christmas?

There is a lot of merry making, cheering, celebrations, events and of course Owambe parties where you are guaranteed of the latest fads in fashion, and of course fooooood. Who doesn’t love food huh? Oh yea, I am an unapologetic foodie, and I am not sorry.

Amidst all the merry making , we all have to look like a million dollar to those events {even though you don’t have to spend all that }. End of the year parties, family reunion, carnivals, house warming etc. There are loads of ’em, I wonder ”how many person go go sef”.

The Igbos (Abiriba’s) celebrate the Afa Ukwu this year. My publisher says o ma loud like the Yoruba’s would say.

The Ukwa Carnival in Obehi Ukwa

The Benins celerate the Igue

Let’s not even forget the Lagos Parties, ain’t no party like the Lagos Party!

So you have to slay or be squared. Slaying is the ability to be fashionable in an outfit that has a perfect fit….Confidently.

Suffice it to say that Slaying is a three unit course that cannot be carried over.

Like we already established, you really don’t need to break the bank. To be a “Slayonce” should not come with unnecessary headaches though it is , most times. Designers, Tailors, Sura de Tailors dem, everybody is busy right now. So, you must know how to avoid disappointments.

SO HERE ARE THE THINGS YOU MUST DO TO MEET UP

  1. Buy your fabrics early enough
  2. Take them to your designer early enough, before December.
  3. Go with your styles. This is not a time to look up to a tailor for style inspiration, They will disappoint you.
  4. Follow Up: Occasionally visit your tailor. Be nice, drop comments on their social media handles. Send them text reminders .

7 STYLISH KIMONO IDEAS TO ROCK THIS SEASON: STYLE STEAL

Kimonos have become every ladies must have. Your wardrobe practically screams if you don’t have this fashion piece as part of it’s citizens. Kimonos are not just super stylish, they are easy and stress free. You can rock your kimonos over a pair of shorts, a dress, trousers or even skirts.

The occasions are always perfect, from the easy breezy evening wear to the all dressed up party/office look; Kimonos can save the day. Another beautiful part pf having a kimono is the fact that you can have several vibrant colours; plain, floral, patterned , stripped.

Kimonos are not one of those fashion fads that are just perfect for the ” figure 8” or ”sweet 16”, just any body size can perfectly rock a kimono.

Like we always say, any style worn with confidence is The Style. So, if you choose to rock your kimono, make sure your confidence level is up because that is the first thing people see before the style or even the fit.

We stole  some collections for you and we hope you’d like them. Don’t forget to share!

Cheers to the weekend!

BTS TUESDAY:DESIGNER MAI ATAFO’s STORY by BETTY IRABOR

BTS TUESDAY:DESIGNER MAI ATAFO’s STORY by BETTY IRABOR

You will find this an inspiring read. We hope this will get you started . DO!

This is how to be INTENTIONAL.
Ohimai Atafo  left a 7 figure paying job as Brand Manager of Guinness Stout to chase a fiery, burning passion in Fashion In 2010. When he called me that year to say he wanted to freelance as Genevieve fashion editor, I told him we couldn’t afford to pay him. He said it wasn’t about the money .. “I realised that if I didn’t make a move to follow my heart and make a living out of my passion I probably wouldn’t have another chance. This was because if i got a promotion at work I most probably wouldn’t be able to push on with both careers and one would definitely suffer. I also figured that after over 8 years in marketing if the fashion dream failed I could always get a job in brand management with my experience”. He explained. So Mai came on board as the Fabulous Fashion Editor of Genevieve on a monthly allowance of N250k. Some of his fashion ideas were too crazy for us but hey we probably needed some crazy in our fashion editorials. We hit some and missed some. And that was ok too. At Genevieve, he was just another regular member of the GTEAM and not the boss guy from the corporate world although he was cruising into the office in a Merc Jeep! He ate “mama put” with his team and ran errands when called to do so. By the time Mai left two years later, he was well on his way to becoming who he set out to be in 2010. He knew what his end game was and he didn’t leave anything to chance, he worked towards it and knows that even now he is still work in progress. So how intentional are you in the attainment of your goals?? Still standing by the poolside and testing the waters with your big toe or still Praying without actions or Waiting for the mountain to come to you and Blaming everyone for your lack of drive? Won’t or can’t take a risk?? Ok, here’s the thing; Nothing moves until you move! How badly do you want IT? Then what are you waiting for. Go on, stir things up..you have wasted enough time already!
