Ikhide Izokpu recaps DAY 6 of ATN

Ikhide Izokpu recaps DAY 6 of ATN
Ikhide Izokpu recaps the very dramatic Day 6 of the ATN motorcycle tour , a day to the last leg.

Its amazing how chilly it is every morning in the North Central of Naija.

Ikhide Izokpu
Its amazing how chilly it is every morning in the North Central of Naija. Finally mustered some strength for the morning routine before the ride. All looks good, lil did i know the bike had an internal problem yet to rear its ugly head. A quick stop at the mechanic to adjust a setting on my paddys bike, time to head out after a 12minutes time out and mine won’t start. Prognosis revealed stator coil had gone bad.

Prognosis revealed stator coil had gone bad.

 Ikhide Izokpu
I gazed at the motorcycle graveyard hoping they could get a spare, no replacement, we had to opt for a local temporal fix. Its not a 100% but I am hopeful it will do 1000km before it packs up.
Anxiety sets in as solution seemed near but far. It was 2pm, the mechanics had not completed the job, a decision was made to schedule trip for tomorrow.
Hopped on a keke heading to Rayfield, we decided to change hotel. Steffan was the abode for the night.

Hopped on a keke heading to Rayfield,

Its a nice hotel and budget friendly if you stay in the old wing. Lol. Food tasty price unappetizing in comparism to Emerald hotel.
Ikhide Izokpu
The new wing was home for the night which was spent laying like a vegetable, remote control in hand and an attempt to add calories.

Biker Ikhide Izokpu: Lips still hurt, illicit thought taunts me! DAY 5

have lost track of the days…..today is Friday….abi? Lol.

For a minute illicit thought taunts me..

Biker Ikhide Izokpu recaps Day 5 : Woke up to 17°, lips still hurting. Kept rolling my tongue often hoping to get some succour and a permanent relief. For a minute illicit thought taunts me…..but I find solace in self deceit that its for the lips greater good.
Good food and well earned rest, time to show some love to Velocity (zx6r). Battery replaced and other discomforts sorted.

Dunno who asked me to climb 100steps?

Biker Ikhide Izokpu

As planned, today is our rest day, decided to visit the Jos museum and zoo. Not sure i had an open mind, but sure had fun at the museum. The antic vehicles joggled my thoughts. It was a pleasant sight.

BOLTS IN SENSITIVE ZONES WERE OFF- BIKER IKHIDE- ATN DAY 4

BOLTS IN SENSITIVE ZONES WERE OFF- BIKER IKHIDE- ATN DAY 4
BOLTS IN SENSITIVE ZONES WERE OFF
You want to hear abi? lol!
BOLTS/ BIKER STORIES
Day…..erm erm;

Usual morning routine in 18°, departure set for 9.30am.
BOLTS/BIKER STORIES
Local intel advised on best route considering our nag we did not want a 5hour plus journey to Jos, so we took the Zaria Panbeguwa road which takes us through Kaduna Jos road where at some point we served good punishment at Saminaka.
BOLTS/BIKER STORIES
I was ready for the bad spots, laced my knees and calves with our local ointment “aboniki balm”……yes it did work but i left out my thighs, and it gave in to the pressure of uneven surfaces.
BOLTS/ BIKER STORIES
I was not the only one who had a rough time. The zx6r had its apportioned share of the ordeal. Battery gave up, bolts in sensitive zones were off, temperature going up unusually high almost forcing me to a halt often time. I skilfully managed it till we maundered into J town, Emerald hotel in Rayfield at mid afternoon.
BOLTS/BIKER STORIES
Accommodation was fair, food was tasty and not pricey. N1000 will do your stomach some good. But before dinner we did a bit of sight n sounds of the town in search of buka food.

DAY BREAK SEEMED LIKE ETERNITY- IKHIDE RECAPS ATN DAY 3

DAY BREAK SEEMED LIKE ETERNITY- IKHIDE RECAPS ATN DAY 3
Day break seemed like eternity as I looked at the ceiling…..counting sheep.
Longer night shorter days….went down for bike maintenance at 6am, pretty dark but a ray of light beamed at the park. Not good enough but I could use it to get the job done.
Rallied team mates for early departure, so it seemed…..8.45am, destination Zaria.

Dry rivers, thatched buildings, it was alot to sip in when I dared to compare where I was coming from.

DAY BREAK/BIKER
Much more pleasurable ride as the roads were relatively smooth all the way. Pacing through communities and settlements buzzed my mind. Dry rivers, thatched buildings, it was alot to sip in when I dared to compare where I was coming from.
DAY BREAK/BIKER
Journey was set at 420km to Sleeprite hotel in Zaria, intent was to get in at 3pm as I owed my body its rightful rest. The journey became a trudge 180km into Zaria as it seemed the landlords or selfish road users often time do careless over take and run us off our path.
DAY BREAK/BIKER
Made good time 3.30pm……food was affordable and tasty. Rest time….just for a bit.
Biker stories will take you to destinations without visiting them! Let me know what you think! Cheers!

THE EXPERIENCE OF EXCELLENT BAD ROADS – DAY 2 BY IKHIDE

THE EXPERIENCE OF EXCELLENT BAD ROADS – DAY 2 BY IKHIDE

Bad roads are part of the Riders adventure…Enjoy this one!

Bed was comfortable, but woke up at 7am feeling like I was beaten to a pulp.

Time ticking, plan was to head out at 10am.Rushed out to do bike maintenance pending when breakfast was served. The food last night was great, hoping this will be better…..and yes it was😁

Bad Roads/ Motorcycle adventure
We set out  11am casually increasing pace on the express. The roads were pleasant till we got to Yelwa then we had an horrific experience of excellent “bad” roads (111km) till we got to Koko Bagudu in Kebbi state. There after was 260km of bliss roads into Sokoto.

The roads were pleasant

till we got to Yelwa

then we had an horrific experience of excellent “bad” roads (111km)

We decided to stay at Taraka Hotel because of the night life. Bad mistake, we should have just stayed at Dankani Hotel as planned. The hotel I will rate 2 on a scale of 10. The food was ok…but their service was crappy.
Bad roads/ Motocycle adventure

The hotel I will rate 2 on a scale of 10.

I was given someone’s room…..the customer had not checked out and I was checked in. He came knocking, I opened the door and there he stood, about 6ft 2inches with his loaded AK47 with extra magazine and a bayonet by his hip. He was in plain clothes! You don’t want to know what raced through my head.
Bad roads/ Motorcycle adventure

There he stood, about 6ft 2inches with his loaded AK47

Loads of  drama ensued, I was given another much crappier room.
Well, sleep was inevitable. I live to fight another day… with Day 3 on my mind, the long unending roads, the unexpected….Trudge on soldier, Trudge on!

Body Aches, Fingers Numb, Lips Chapped: Biker ”Ikhide Izokpu” Recaps Across The Nation – DAY 1.

www.backendscoop.com

Departure!

January 2019 we will start the sojourn from the South West to North Central further up to the North West deep down to North East and begin decent to Southwest .The objective is to tour the geopolitical zones of the country on our Motorcycles.
By the way my Name is Ikhide Izokpu! Lol, wasn’t I going to do that?

Okay so back to the gist!

We departed Lagos at 7:30 a.m. Destination was Kotangora ,We passed through Lagos-Ibadan and headed towards Oyo State then to Ogbomosho. The journey was less eventful until we got to Oyo-Ogbomosho road where the landlords informed us our rent has not been paid hence we should get off the road. Yes I found myself often times going off the road, due to the trailers commandeering my drive lane. If you are conversant with the road, you will reckon !

Docked at Ogbomosho at 10:45 a.m.

body shaking like a drug addict anticipating his fix !

Docked at Ogbomosho at 10:45 a.m. body shaking like a drug addict anticipating his fix ! Oh thank goodness Iya Mutiu Amala did the job . They are life savers walahi!

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES…

Trudging through the local roads, getting on to the stretch that takes us to the boundary of Kwara State handing over to Niger State was a good ride. Roads are still as good as it has been for years. On the other leg, I was surprised at the road to Jebba. I have gone through this road many a time but today seems pretty different. The Government has done a fantastic job. The road was a pain for travellers.

Biker

Sauntered into Niger state at 1:35 p.m. onward marching to Kontagora. Weather unbelievably relatively cool at this time so we decided we could take the bashing of an unending journey as we still had about 210 minutes journey time.

Body aches, fingers numb,

lips chapped,

my mind rovers in trepidation!

Finally we find ourselves at our stopover Safara Motel and suits. Body aches, fingers numb, lips chapped, my mind rovers in trepidation! When, Where and How did all this emanate from?Who send me? BTW Hotel services and ambience has earned my five star sha.

Biker

Lights out 800km done, tomorrow will push 410km to the Caliphate.

Tomorrow you will hear about it!
